Experience of usage of the innovational biotic complex as part of lipid- restoring cream in children with dry skin
Introduction. Xerosis is one of the most common dermatological diagnosis in outpatient clinical practice especially in children. Despite the wide variety of dry skin care products, the emergence of an innovative biotic complex (IBC) with probiotics and inulin in combined product is attracting the attention of dermatologists. This is due to the expectations of a pronounced clinical effect due to the positive impact on the skin microbiome.
Materials and methods. 29 children (11 males (38%) and 18 females (62%) from 6 to 15 years (average age 11,3±2,7) with xerosis were under outpatient observation in the Pediatric Clinic of Skin and Venereal diseases during 14 days. Their parents signed a voluntary informed consent to participate in the study. Patients were offered to use an IBC as part of a lipid-restoring cream with panthenol or isolated usage of panthenol for the treatment of xerosis. The children were divided into 2 groups. The first group included 15 patients who received an IBC as part of a lipid-restoring cream with panthenol twice a day. Members of group 2 (n=14) applied panthenol twice a day. All children underwent an objective examination and corneometry (ph, hydratation, sebum content) at the initial visit, and on 7 and 14 days.
Results. At the initial visit, according to the results of an objective examination all study participants (n=29;100%) had moderate desquamation, 2 (7%) — had itching. According to the results of corneometry at the initial visit, the average value of skin ph in patients was 6.58±0.91, skin hydratation — 31.4±5.9, sebum content — 3.7±2.6. At the second visit on the 7th day of the study, all participants of the 1st group had no desquamation, their skin ph was 6.02±0.44; skin hydratation — 47.4±8.1; sebum content — 5±3.7. In 4 patients (29%) of the 2nd group, desquamation was determined, skin ph was 6.27±0.84, hydratation was 39.6, sebum content was 3.9±2.9. At the final visit, no objective signs of skin dryness were detected in all study participants. In patients of the 1st group skin ph was 5.54±0.47; skin hydratation — 53.9±6.1; sebum content — 8.3±2.6. Patients of 2nd group had the following indicators of the epidermal barrier: ph — 5.72±0.81; hydratation — 46.9±6.8; sebum content — 6.8±3.7.
Discussion. Intermediate results of the application of the lipid-restoring cream with an innovative biotic complex demonstrate a more pronounced and faster clinical effect, which is characterized by decreasing of desquamation by the 7th day of application, a complete restoration of the skin ph by the 14th day, and replenishment of the lipid mantle of the skin. Thus, the cream with the IBC formula covers all the needs of dry skin for its comprehensive restoration.
